The first International Aviation Meeting in the world opened on 22 August 1909 at Reims, and lasted until 29 August 1909. Thirty-eight airplanes were entered to participate, although only 23 managed to leave the ground; the meeting also attracted aviators and airplane designers from all over Europe and did much to arouse widespread public interest in flying. The types of airplanes which flew were: Antoinette, Bleriot XI, Bleriot XII, Bleriot XIII, Breguet, Curtiss, Henry Farman, REP, Voisin and Wright.
