The first non-stop round-the-world flight by turbojet-powered aircraft-- was made by three USAF Boeing B-52B Stratofortresses, completed on 18 January 1957 after a flight of 45 hr 19 min. Commanded by Maj Gen Archie J. Old, USAF, the 24,325 mile (39 147 km) flight was made at an average speed of 537 mph (864 km/h).
