The first airliner with a pressurized cabin to enter service was the Boeing Model 307 Strato-liner, the prototype of which was flown for the first time on 31 December 1938. Derived from the B-17 Flying Fortress bomber, it was advertised as the first airliner to fly above most bad weather conditions because of its pressurized cabin. The first version to enter service, with Trans-Continental and Western Air in April 1940, was the Model 307B, accommodating 33 passengers.
